Mission Statement

We, the professional men and women of the Salem Sheriff's Office, are empowered to defend the Constitution of the United States and Commonwealth of Virginia. Through courtesy, care, trust, and commitment, we will work diligently to provide the most effective and safe delivery of court services to our citizens.

The Salem City Sheriff's Office is responsible for courtroom security, transportation of prisoners, and serving civil law processes.

Sheriff Chris Shelor

Chris Shelor was sworn-in as Salem’s Sheriff in January 2025. Shelor is the sixth Sheriff to serve the citizens of Salem since 1968.
